Big Buddha is one of the popular attractions in Hong Kong. Since the service of Ngong Ping cable car is suspended until June of 2017, there are other alternatives for getting to Big Buddha.
First of all, take the MTR to Tung Chung, where to get the transport to Ngong Ping and Big Buddha. There are two options : bus and taxi.
1. Take a bus from Tung Chung
The bus stop is nearby Exit B1. Take the bus No.23. Drop off at Ngong Ping Village and walk about 7-8 minutes to the entrance of Big Buddha.

Cost : HK$17.2 (weekdays) / $27 (weekend)
Frequency : every 10-20 minutes

Tai O, a old Hong Kong fishing village is easily accessible by bus from Ngong Ping. It is possible to spend a day on a slow paced place after Big Buddha. Just pay attention to the timetable because it is not frequent.

Frequency : every 1-2 hours

2. Take a taxi from Tung Chung
It costs about HK$150 for a taxi so it is quite affordable if you are going in group. The taxi stand is close to Exit A.
