Dim Sum

Dim Sum is the must-eat food for your first time in Hong Kong. It is a traditional, popular, and special food that you can find in tea houses or dim sum restaurants.

There are different kind of dim sum, steamed, baked, pan-fried and deep-fried. Most of them are made in snack-sized and served in bamboo containers, whcih easily share dishes together. And people drink tea with dim sum.

 

Pineapple Bun

One of a must-try local food. Actually it has no pineapple inside. Its name because its puff pastry top looks like a pineapple. Sometimes served with butter, which called “Pineapple Bun Butter”.

 

Egg Tart

Also famous in Hong Kong. It is filled with egg custard and usually made with cookie dough.

 

Curry Fish Ball

A common street food in Hong Kong, made by fish paste. Cheap, tasty and popular.

Sai Do Si

Hong Kong-style french toast. It has peanut butter inside and served with syrup or condensed milk.

 

Canton Roast Meat

Canton Roast Meat is also called “Siu Lap”. Traditionally roasting meats in a charcoal oven until the skin is crispy. You will see lots of roasted foods hanging in front of the roast restaurants, most of them also offering marinated foods.It is paired with rice, or with noodles in some restaurants.

 

Dai Pai Dong

Dai Pai Dong is a type of open-air food stall in Hong Kong, some moved to indoor now, mostly open at night only. You can find many kind of Cantonese stir-fries, and some pot dishes.

 

Local Desserts

There is a wide variety of traditional sweets in Hong Kong, most are soupy which called “Tong Sui”. Tong Sui is tasty, low-price, and the most important, good for health. Since the weather here is wet and hot sometimes, Some desserts are included Chinese medical herbs to recover the body. It can be served cold or hot, depending on the season.
